Using the spotlight to reflect God's light

Created To Create

I absolutely love being creative!  Whatever the project is, it’s so fun to have a vision and bring it to life.  I’m always very intentional when creating and usually spend a lot of time on it; it doesn’t always turn out great, but I enjoy it.

Why do we as humans enjoy creating?  This is a question I have reflected on often.  I know it’s not everybody’s cup of tea, but on some level, most people like it.  After studying my bible more, I found my answer lying within the pages!

In Genesis 1:27 it says, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

We were created in God’s image. Within the first 3 words the scripture tells you something about God. He is creative. Since we are made in God’s image, it makes sense why we too are creative.

Throughout the Bible you can see how much God values art.  In Genesis he carefully crafted and created the world, along with us.  He tells us to sing, dance, and play instruments.

The reason we love being creative so much is because it draws us into God’s presence.

When we create, we are reflecting a characteristic of God. We are becoming more like Christ. He paints the most beautiful sunsets, and we paint too. How cool is that?   I love the Psalms because it has a lot of wonderful poetry. In some of David’s hardest times he used it to communicate how he felt. We use poetry the same way he did! David glorified God through his pain and sorrow, but also in his art.

As I mentioned in the beginning, I have always loved creating, but now I have a better understanding of why.  God tasked us with the beautiful job of creating; when we do, we have this unique opportunity to sit in the presence of God and glorify him through our art.  It may not always turn out how we want, but God’s does.  He spent 6 days crafting this beautiful earth, but 9 months creating you.  That just goes to show how intentional he is in creating each of us, and now it’s our turn.

Don’t ever convince yourself what you’re passionate about doesn’t matter. God has a wonderful place for art and cares deeply for those who love it just as he does.

         We were created to create.
